Student-built miniboat relaunched into the ocean by Carnival

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A student-built miniboat was relaunched into the ocean to collect data in a partnership between Sail Nauticus Academy and Carnival Cruise Line.

Sail Nauticus Academy is a year-round program designed to empower Norfolk Public School students through sailing and maritime exploration.

“This relaunch represents more than just a boat in the water—it’s a symbol of opportunity, curiosity, and what happens when education and industry unite,” said Nate Sandel, director of education and community engagement at Nauticus. “We are incredibly grateful to Carnival Cruise Line for helping extend our students’ learning journey beyond the horizon.”…
