MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Nearly half a century after a man helped to save lives by stopping traffic from entering a collapsed bridge, while also rescuing a motorist from the creek below, he was honored Monday morning.
The South Perkins Bridge has taken on a new name, it’s now the Maurice Ira Salmon Jr. Memorial Bridge in honor of a man who, at just 20 years old, did something many twice his age may have feared.
Anne Frase said she’s alive today because of the selflessness of a total stranger, whose name she would later learn.
