The brutal robbery and attack of an 88-year-old in 2019 — who later died from her injuries — was allegedly one of eight that occurred during a spree of violent incidents allegedly carried out by San Francisco resident Keonte Gathron, prosecutors said Monday.
In his opening statements, Assistant District Attorney Nathan Quigley detailed the spree Gathron allegedly was on when he allegedly attacked Yik Oi Huang at a playground she exercised in every morning. At least eight other similar incidents occurred around the time of Huang’s attack on Jan. 8, 2019, officials said. Nearly all occurred in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood and targeted Asian minors or older adults who spoke little English.
“This brutal assault didn’t happen in a vacuum,” Quigley told the jury and Gathron, who will be representing himself while in police custody. Gathron appeared in court during the morning’s proceedings wearing a navy blue suit, seated next to a private investigator who is working with him…
