Parents, grandfather charged in baby’s death

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – The parents and grandfather of a two-month-old who died on Feb. 21 have been arrested and charged in connection with his death.

Arrest warrants state that the child’s parents, Chloe Marnell and Jayhlen Washington, face charges of involuntary manslaughter and Negligent Child Abuse-Serious Bodily Injury. Additionally, Eddie Hollingsworth, the child’s grandfather, is charged with Negligent Child Abuse-Serious Bodily Injury. All three—Marnell, Washington, and Hollingsworth—were taken into custody on Sept. 19.

Arrest warrants allege that Marnell and Washington consumed cocaine while taking care of the two-month-old, as well as “wrapping the baby in a blanket while sleeping, co-sleeping with him and letting the baby sleep in a home with no heat in cold weather.”…
