Richmond area tourism tops $3.9 billion in visitor spending in 2024

Visitors spent an estimated $3.9 billion in the Richmond Region in 2024, according to the latest data from the Virginia Tourism Corporation. The figure marks a 4.7% increase over the previous year and continues a trend of record-breaking growth for the area.

Tourism-related spending on lodging, dining, retail, recreation, and transportation generated $183.8 million in local tax revenues and $110.2 million in state taxes. Analysts estimate Virginia households saved $990 annually on state and local taxes thanks to the revenue generated by visitors.
