St. Louis sheriff sues city after officials restrained his spending powers

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Sheriff Alfred Montgomery vowed to fight back against city officials after they restrained his spending powers. Montgomery has since made good on his promise with a recently filed lawsuit.

The St. Louis Board of Aldermen passed Board Bill 33 on Sept. 19, putting Montgomery on a one-year probationary period and requiring deputies to transport detainees to medical appointments, a duty Montgomery has previously refused to carry out. Mayor Cara Spencer has since signed the bill into law.
