TPWD: 7 boating incidents, 2 fatalities over Labor Day weekend

Austin (KXAN) – Texas Game Wardens responded to seven boating-related incidents over Labor Day weekend. While that number is lower compared to last year, where nine boating-related incidents were reported, Texas Parks and Wildlife reporting a rise in boating-related fatalities, the department said in a news release Monday.

Two fatalities occurred over the Aug. 29 – Sept. 1 weekend, one in Lake Buchanan and another in Lake Conroe. That’s compared to the lone fatality that occurred at Amistad Reservoir over 2024’s Labor Day weekend, according to the news release.

“We are saddened by the lives lost over the holiday weekend,” Col. Ron VanderRoest, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department law enforcement director, said in the release. “Our wardens work tirelessly to prevent tragedies, but these incidents reinforce that safety on the water is a partnership, and we need the public to always practice safe and responsible boating.”…
