MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Alabama Department of Transportation will soon start extensive work on the Dauphin Island Bridge to extend the structure’s life and improve safety for drivers, News 5 has learned.

The SR-193 project, which begins Sept. 30, involves bridge rehabilitation and corrosion mitigation, according to an ALDOT news release.
Motorists should expect daily lane closures on the 3.45-mile bridge, as well as one-lane, signalized flagging operations during the construction period.
Completion of the project is anticipated by early 2029, weather permitting.
