Joint Local and Federal Probe Underway After Explosion Sparks House Fire Near Wendell in Wake County

An explosion followed by a fire engulfed a residence in Wake County near Wendell yesterday morning, causing local and federal authorities to launch a joint investigation. As detailed in a statement by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:50 a.m. on Old Bunch Road close to Doc Procter Road. Upon receiving reports of the explosion, fire crews and deputies responded, and the Wendell and Hopkins Fire Departments were able to successfully extinguish the blaze. The precise cause is still under scrutiny by the Wake County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), as per CBS 17’s report.

Information remains scarce as “this is an active investigation, and there is no other information at this time,” officials were quoted in the CBS 17 report. The fire was confirmed to have started from an explosion as fire crews and deputies were quick to “respond to a report of an explosion that led to a house fire.” The area affected is described as lying just west of Lizard Lick Road and north of U.S. 264, a geography known to residents of the outlying Raleigh communities.

Contrasting reports about injuries have surfaced, with ABC11 reporting that deputies mentioned injuries related to the incident, while WRAL indicates that there appeared to be no injuries. This discrepancy highlights the chaotic nature of such unforeseen disasters and the sometimes fragmented information that emerges in their immediate aftermath…
