40 St. Louis police officers return after leaving for other departments

ST. LOUIS — More than three dozen officers have rejoined the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department since Chief Robert Tracy took over nearly three years ago. Despite the reinforcements, the department continues to battle an officer shortage.

Right now, there are 866 officers with St. Louis police. That’s down some 30 officers since August of last year. There are still more than 300 positions open.
