Traffic cameras coming to US 36 between Lyons and Estes Park

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — Drivers will begin to see new technology installed along two major northern Colorado highways next week, including traffic cameras and fiber optic cable.

The Colorado Department of Transportation project kicks off Sept. 29 and it includes installing fiber optic cable along Colorado Highway 66 from Interstate 25 to Lyons. The fiber system will support the new traffic cameras, expand internet access to local communities, improve emergency communications and help CDOT manage traffic equipment.

On U.S. Highway 36 between Lyons and Estes Park, traffic cameras will be installed. The ability to have cameras along U.S. 36 will help CDOT monitor the canyon corridor that has experienced floods, fires, strong winds and heavy snow over the years.
