Federal grant funds St. Lucie County’s cleanup of debris from Hurricane Milton’s tornadoes

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A federal grant is helping St. Lucie County clear one of its canals of debris brought by Hurricane Milton and the tornadoes that sprang from the outer bands.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), through its Emergency Watershed Protection program, is funding the clean-up and repair of the Eastwood Canal, which suffered tornado damage from Hurricane Milton back in October of 2024.

The cost of the project is estimated to be $168,410; the USDA-NRCS is expected to reimburse 100% of the construction estimate. The organization will also reimburse up to 10% of the cost for technical services items, which include survey design, contract administration and inspection…
