Newark City Council approves nearly $24,000 raise for city manager

Newark City Council last week approved a nearly $24,000 raise for City Manager Tom Coleman, even as the city faces a tough budget outlook this fall.

The raise was associated with Coleman’s annual performance review and brings his annual salary to $207,000, a nearly 13 percent increase from his previous salary of $183,456, which was set in May 2024.

Newark is in the midst of its annual budget process, and Coleman and other top officials have warned that it’s a challenging year, with a shortfall of several million dollars.
