The Allen City Council approved awarding a $1.1 million contract to A&C Construction Inc. for the Watters Trail South Extension project on Sept. 23.
The quarter-mile extension will connect the current trail end points at Montgomery Apartments at Watters Creek to the future Rowlett Trail, which is nearing final design. The project has been identified as high priority in Allen, Collin County and regional master plans for more than 20 years.
“This section of trail is by far the No. 1 asked-for connection,” said Parks and Recreation Director Kate Meacham. “So, this has been identified for over 20 years as a key connector between not only Plano and Allen, but eventually this also connects up into McKinney.”…
