GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A roundtable and panel discussion in Grand Rapids Wednesday highlighted creative solutions to the state’s growing child care problem.
According to research from Michigan State University, 55% of Michigan zip codes meet “child care desert” criteria, which means there are at least three children for every one open child care spot. During their event at Cascade Engineering, Vibrant Futures and The Right Place said that lack of child care is costing employers in Michigan $2.8 billion in annual productivity losses.
“You can’t attract talent to the region unless you have an opportunity for people to start and grow their careers. That means child care,” one panelist said…
