Gun violence has Austin firefighters and paramedics getting upgraded bulletproof vests

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin firefighters and EMS crews are getting upgraded bulletproof vests. New funding will give the first responders an extra layer of security when they need it most.

Until now, when firefighters rolled out on calls, only about 50% had bulletproof vests in their trucks. It was announced on Wednesday that starting in the next few weeks, that will change.
