Man denied pre-trial release after leading police on two high-speed chases

WHEATON, Ill. (WGN) – A Cook County man has been denied pre-trial release after leading the Oak Brook and Aurora police departments on two separate high-speed chases early Wednesday morning.

The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said at around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, an Aurora police officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2001 black Toyota Highlander that reportedly ran two stop signs, one at Vaughn Road and Adams Way, and the other at Vaughn Road and McCoy Drive.

After initially pulling over, the vehicle drove off as the officer approached.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 21-year-old Armoni Flowers, then led the officer on a chase reaching speeds of nearly 80 mph in a 40 mph-zone on northbound Eola Road before ultimately getting on I-88 eastbound, according to investigators.

Authorities said just before 1:30 a.m., an Oak Brook police officer found the Highlander traveling approximately 75 mph at I-88 and Route 83. That officer reportedly activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, but Flowers then accelerated, reaching speeds of nearly 100 mph while traveling eastbound on I-88 near the I-294 overpass…
