Raleigh, NC Weather: Damaging Winds, Heat Index Near 100 Thursday

Raleigh, NC – Residents across central and eastern North Carolina face a dual weather threat Thursday as forecasters warn of both severe storms and dangerous heat conditions.

According to the US National Weather Service in Raleigh, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening, especially north and west of the Triangle. The main hazard is damaging wind gusts that could exceed 60 mph, with the greatest risk between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

At the same time, the southern and eastern parts of the region, including Raleigh, Durham, and surrounding counties, will see unusually hot and humid conditions. Forecasters say temperatures will run 10 to 15 degrees above average, pushing the heat index to between 95 and 100 degrees.
