North Carolina Man Charged With Murder of 36-Year-Old Woman as Deputies Search for Remains

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A North Carolina man has been charged with murder and multiple felonies in connection with the disappearance of a 36-year-old woman whose remains have not yet been located, according to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.

Disappearance and Crime Scene

On September 9 around 4:30 p.m., deputies responded to the 1200 block of Blackberry Ridge Drive in High Point following a report of suspicious activity.

During their search, investigators found a crime scene but were unable to locate the missing woman, identified as Amber Schimmelpfenning, 36.

Her case was quickly reclassified from a missing person search to a homicide investigation.

Suspect Charged

Detectives obtained warrants for Ricky Lam, 40, charging him with:

  • Felony First-Degree Murder
  • Felony Concealment/Failure to Report a Death
  • Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

Lam was already in custody at the Davidson County Detention Center on unrelated charges when the warrants were served on September 14. He remains jailed without bond.

Deputies continue to search for Schimmelpfenning’s remains and her champagne-colored Chevrolet Avalanche with the North Carolina license plate VHA-5320
