Dispute over Dietrich Park homeless encampment continues

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie Aquilina says the city of Lansing needs to clear the Dietrich Park homeless encampment by Nov. 14 — under the condition that the city finds safe and stable housing for every one of the people who live there.

The city’s attorney says they’ve brought portable toilets, sinks, and dumpsters to the encampment, complying with the judge’s earlier order to make the site safe and sanitary.

At the courthouse Wednesday were numerous community resources—including the Tenant Resource Center, Advent New Hope, and the City Rescue Mission of Lansing. The city says that they’re doing everything they can—but some people in the encampment simply don’t want to leave…
