Speeding violation turns into DUI arrest after failed seat swap in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — What started as a routine traffic stop turned into a full-blown arrest for two men who thought they could outsmart the law.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department said late Wednesday night, Ohmarion Kershaw and Nickolas Hernandez found themselves in hot water after a speeding violation on Crosstown Parkway escalated into a chase and multiple criminal counts. The vehicle, initially flagged for speeding and illegal window tints, failed to stop and continued onto SW Cameo Boulevard. Officers quickly located the car and its occupants, but not before a failed attempt to switch seats and confuse PSLPD.

Police said Kershaw — who was originally behind the wheel — swapped places with Hernandez in a last-ditch effort to dodge responsibility. Unfortunately for them, officers had already identified the driver. When contact was made on SW McAllister Lane, signs of impairment were immediately evident — alongside open containers found inside the vehicle…
