Virginia Beach mail carrier pleads guilty to mail destruction

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 34-year-old mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service pled guilty Tuesday to delay or destruction of mail.

According to court documents, a witness reported to the post office that Jerold Brent Mayers, 34, was removing mail from his truck and discarding it into a dumpster at an apartment complex in Virginia Beach on May 2.

Investigators later recovered the discarded mail, which included checks, billing and bank statements, Department of Motor Vehicles correspondence and medical mailing among other items. The mail was returned to the post office and placed back into the mail stream…
