Lone Star College System introduces its very first chief mental health officer and chief veterans officer

Lone Star College System appointed its first-ever chief mental health officer and chief veterans officer — roles that aim to create more comprehensive services for its veteran students and those needing mental health aid.

The college system tapped clinical psychologist Shantha Stokes, who was previously at Sam Houston State University, in June and retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. David J. Yebra in August, who was previously working at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The inaugural roles signify new “student-focused” visions and goals coming from college leadership, Yebra said.

“These positions that are being established will be very complementary,” Arizona-native Yebra said. “To also have that one (Lone Star College) type spirit, where there’s really no division but that we are in sync when it comes to achieving the success of our students.”…
