LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Authorities believe the suspects in a double murder in Northern California have ties to Las Vegas and are hoping the public can help with the investigation.
On July 2, 2022, at around 11 p.m., deputies responded to calls of a shooting near Atwater in Merced County, about 100 miles east of San Jose. Callers reported that multiple shots were fired by suspects in one vehicle toward four occupants in another vehicle, according to a news release from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
Ruben Coronado, 23, and Eli Correa, 24, were killed, and a woman was critically injured in that shooting. The suspects fled the scene and are still at large.
Surveillance footage showed that a gray/silver SUV was connected to the crime, and investigators said they identified the vehicle as a silver 2020 Mazda CX-9. Detectives believe the vehicle has ties to Las Vegas. The sheriff’s office released an image from the surveillance video of the suspect vehicle and a stock image of what the SUV would look like.
