Jabari Peoples’ family attorney plans wrongful death suit after reviewing bodycam footage

In a rule 27 hearing Thursday attorneys representing Jabari Peoples’ family ALEA and the City of Homewood were able to view the body camera footage leading to the shooting of Jabari Peoples for an on camera review in judge Elisabeth French’s chambers.

After reviewing the footage the hearing was resumed and Leroy Maxwell the attorney representing the Peoples family explained that the footage ALEA gave to the court was the same footage he had reviewed at the district attorney’s office. The only difference being higher quality video and audio and ALEA’s stamp.

This led Maxwell to withdraw his rule 27 petition which was filed to preserve video evidence and get it in the official court record since there had been questions about the video being edited…
