Man charged with murder in attorney’s 2017 stabbing death set for retrial in January

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A trial date of Jan. 12 was set Thursday for a man charged with murder and robbery in the grisly stabbing death of a Bakersfield attorney eight years ago.

During a brief court hearing, attorneys said Nicholas Quintana, 27, no longer faces the death penalty in the slaying of Marcos Vargas, 26.
