Chattanooga councilman backs out of proposal to support UAW in VW contract negotiations

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Despite pressure from union workers and supporters, one Chattanooga city councilman says he’s no longer moving forward with a proposal for the council to support the United Auto Workers (UAW) in their contract negotiations with Volkswagen.

Last month, the Chattanooga Area Labor Council organized community members for a rally outside city hall.

The rally urge Chattanooga city council to pass a resolution “affirming VW workers’ right to a fair contract.”

Now, Councilman Ron Elliot says he plans to withdraw that resolution…
