Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Police Department announced the passing of K9 Buck, a 2-year-old Labrador who had served with the department for just over a year. Buck died on September 24, 2025, from medical complications.
According to CPD, Buck showed signs of gastrointestinal upset and lethargy the day before his death. He was taken to his primary care veterinarian, who referred him to a specialist after observing significant abnormalities. It was determined that Buck was suffering from septic peritonitis, which progressed to Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation, a life-threatening complication with a high mortality rate. Despite efforts to save him, Buck did not survive.
Born on June 17, 2023, Buck joined CPD in August 2024 along with his littermate and brother, Skip. Trained in explosives and firearms detection, Buck participated in multiple sweeps to ensure event safety and was also used in investigations involving firearms.
