Alabama Department of Public Health warns about Chagas disease

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Alabama’s Department of Public Health is raising concerns and awareness about a rare, but potentially serious illness.

Alabama has been lucky as bordering states see cases of Chagas disease in humans, which is carried by a critter nicknamed ‘Kissing Bug.’

“They’re called Kissing Bugs because they’ll bite you on your mouth or around your eyes and they excrete that waste and so you’ll scratch where they just bit you, and you just rubbed in their waste into the wound and potentially just got the parasite,” said Michael Mayfield, public health entomologist at the ADPH…
