A 74-year-old Lady Lake man was jailed after refusing to turn down his loud music.
A neighbor dialed 911 at about 11 p.m. Saturday to complain about the loud music coming from the home of Paul Gordon Hardy at 37326 Happy Lane, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The woman said the loud music had been “an ongoing issue” and the music is played at such an “excessive level” that it makes it difficult for her and her children to sleep. She completed a sworn statement indicating her willingness to see Hardy prosecuted.
A deputy went to speak with Hardy, who initially indicated he would turn down the music, which the deputy described as “ice cream truck style music.” However, rather than lowering the volume, Hardy, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 275 pounds, “began spewing profanities” and remained in his front yard shining a flashlight into the roadway. The deputy continued to request that Hardy turn down the music, which made him “angrier.”
The deputy issued a summons to appear in court to answer to the charge of excessive noise, but Hardy refused to sign it. He was arrested on a charge of refusing to sign a law enforcement citation. He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $500 bond…
