GREENSBORO, N.C. — A routine lunch period at Irving Park Elementary School quickly turned serious Tuesday when a staff member saved a second-grader from choking.
School officials said second-grade student Karter Johnson began choking on a piece of hamburger during lunch. That’s when Exceptional Children teacher assistant Tammy Cuthrell saw what was happening and stepped in.
Cuthrell performed the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the food and helping Karter breathe again…
