MFRD: 5-year-old child dies following house fire on Sharon Drive

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A 5-year-old boy has died after he was pulled from a burning home late Thursday night, according to the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department.

Officials said it was about 11:47 p.m. when firefighters responded to the fire at a home in the 1500 block of Sharon Drive.

Two children were home alone at the time of the fire, the fire department reported. A 12-year-old boy was awakened by a smoke alarm and the smell of smoke and was able to make it out of the home safely, officials said. The MFRD said the boy told firefighters his 5-year-old brother was still inside and he was unable to get to him due to the intense fire spreading quickly.

Firefighters got the younger child out of the burning home, and he was immediately transported to a local hospital. Officials said that despite ongoing resuscitation efforts, the young boy was pronounced deceased at the hospital…
