Healey and Driscoll Are Not Massachusetts Natives

It wouldn’t be fair to call Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll carpetbaggers. However, it is worth noting that neither of the top two statewide officeholders is a native of Massachusetts.

Maura Healey’s Roots

Healey was born in 1971 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. When she was nine months old, her family moved to Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, where she was raised.

After high school, Healey moved to Massachusetts to attend Harvard College and later Northeastern University School of Law.

Kim Driscoll’s Upbringing

Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll was born in 1966 in Hawaii. Driscoll moved to Salem, Massachusetts, in 1986, where she attended Salem State College and later the Massachusetts School of Law.

Other Statewide Elected Officials Are MA Natives

Healey and Driscoll are the only two of the six statewide elected officials to come from outside of Massachusetts. Attorney General Andrea Campbell, now a resident of Dartmouth, was born in Boston. Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin was born in Brighton. Treasurer Deb Goldberg hails from Brookline, and Auditor Diana DiZoglio is from Methuen.

The Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Ron Mariano, was born in Quincy in 1946. Senate President Karen Spilka, born in 1953, is from New York City.
