El Paso Mourns 44th Traffic Fatality After Pedestrian Struck on US-54 Highway

Tragedy struck on a busy El Paso highway as the city recorded its 44th traffic fatality of the year. The El Paso Police Department reported that yesterday afternoon, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on US-54, near Mile Marker 24. According to a social media post by the El Paso Police Department, the collision occurred when the pedestrian, who was running across the northbound lanes and over the center barrier, unexpectedly dashed into the path of an oncoming 2024 Toyota 4-Runner traveling southbound.

Despite the driver’s attempts to avoid the pedestrian, identified as Caraballo, the impact was unavoidable. Witnesses at the scene jumped in to provide immediate aid until emergency responders arrived. Caraballo was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where, regrettably, he succumbed to his injuries. The Special Traffic Investigations unit of the El Paso Police is leading the ongoing investigation into the accident.
