NEBRASKA — On Friday, Sept. 26, Lieutenant Governor Joe Kelly will join Nebraska Commissioner of Education Dr. Brian Maher in drawing attention to the issue of chronic absenteeism in schools. He will provide remarks and present a proclamation on behalf of Governor Jim Pillen during a morning assembly in the Yutan Public Schools gymnasium.
During the 2023-2024 school year, an estimated 68,000 students, or 22% of Nebraska students were chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism applies to those students who are out of school at least 10% of the time. Absenteeism can be the result of many factors, but by identifying primary causes, educators hope to boost student success, and thereby put them back on the path to graduation…
