Proposed development along Harpeth River sparks concerns from longtime neighbors on the land’s future

CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A community meeting held on a proposed $250 million resort near the Harpeth River left some concerned about opening the door for other similar properties to develop the area.

Inspiration for the proposed resort came from Blackberry Farm in East Tennessee. The site would have a restaurant, a spa and 120 residences. Eighty of the residences would be rental cabins while the other 40 residences would be 3,200-square-foot, $2.5 million houses, the developers shared at a recent meeting.

There’s been major pushback from residents — including from Linda Ryder, who has lived along the river for more than 30 years. Ryder said the Harpeth’s features are unique, but the resort could bring in more high-density development to a community that doesn’t want it.

Ryder said that based off the information from the community meeting, the resort seems to be targeted to the ultra-wealthy and not intended or for the general public. She added that with limited roads and high-risk flooding issues, the property isn’t suitable for the neighborhood…
