Horry County, Myrtle Beach ramps up storm preparations with emergency declarations

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County and the city of Myrtle Beach on Friday joined Conway in declaring a state of emergency ahead of any potential impacts from what is likely to be Tropical Storm Imelda.

Horry County Council issued the “localized state of emergency” early Friday afternoon as authorities anticipate and prepare for the storm’s arrival. The order will remain in effect for 60 days unless the council votes to end it sooner.

The North Myrtle Beach City Council plans to meet at 3 p.m. Friday to approve a similar declaration, while Conway officials made the declaration at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, meaning the city is now operating at OPCON 2, which is an enhanced awareness and elevated state of readiness for a potential disaster, officials said…
