Lafayette leaders, community stakeholders, discuss coordinated access to mental healthcare

Lafayette city and parish leaders, legislators and community stakeholders, are exploring ways to strengthen access to behavioral health services.

The Acadiana Crisis Recovery Center would operate as a centralized intervention system, connecting individuals with mental health issues or substance abuse problems with community resources and help. The project has recently entered a formal assessment stage, bringing stakeholders together to identify community needs.

“This conversation in terms of the needs of something like a crisis recovery center has been talk about among various stakeholders in the Lafayette area for quite some time, even before I became involved,” said State Rep. Annie Spell of Lafayette. “It’s been a conversation within our healthcare system, within our city government and within some of our private partners.”…
