Sacramento Battling Homelessness: Over 2,000 Cases Managed and 83 People Enrolled for Support in a Week

The City of Sacramento has recently shared an update on its actions against the ongoing battle with homelessness. Within the timeframe of September 15 to September 21, the City’s Incident Management Team received 791 calls via its 311 customer service concerning unsheltered individuals, Sacramento City Express reports.

These calls resulted in opening of 2,195 cases. This stark number is due to a revision in the way cases are cataloged, a change implemented on July 28, to truly communicate to the public the extent of the issues at hand and efforts to tactically address them. A single call may generate multiple cases, explaining why the number of cases far exceeds the number of calls. The IMT successfully managed to close 1,899 of these cases during the same week, indicating either resolution or compliance, or that the reported issue had dissipated upon inspection, according to the Sacramento City Express.

In terms of providing support to those in need, the City’s Department of Community Response successfully enrolled 83 people into databases designed to quickly to match individuals with shelters and necessary resources. This week also saw 24 individuals placed into housing at facilities such as the Roseville Road campus and the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC). However, as of September 23, there were no available Pallet homes or trailers at the Roseville Road campus and 14 spaces remaining at the OEC, with an average of 32 availabilities at other City-funded shelters, as detailed by the Sacramento City Express…
