Allen County officials respond to TRAA’s discussion to charge for medical dispatch services outside of Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – In a Three Rivers Ambulance Authority (TRAA) meeting held on Thursday, the emergency service discussed charging Allen County for medical dispatch support provided outside of Fort Wayne city limits.

In response, the Allen County Board of Commissioners said Friday that while it has not received any formal requests at this time, it maintains the same response that it shared with the community in June:

“The staff of the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority provide an important service to our community. However, their organization continues to be saddled with a business model from forty years ago that no longer works. The Allen County Board of Commissioners offered financial assistance to TRAA in April 2023 contingent upon the completion of several deliverables whose goal was updating the antiquated Public Utility Model under which TRAA operates.
