South Carolina Governor and Coastal Communities Mobilize as Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 Eyes the Atlantic Coast, Threatening Heavy Rain and Flooding.
Communities across South Carolina, including the popular vacation destination of Myrtle Beach, are rapidly enacting emergency measures as a potential hurricane looms in the Atlantic Ocean. Governor Henry McMaster issued a statewide state of emergency on Friday, joining multiple coastal communities and counties in preemptive action against the developing storm system, currently designated as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine.
Horry County, home to Myrtle Beach, and its constituent cities North Myrtle Beach and Conway, along with Charleston County, have each declared their own states of emergency. This mobilization comes as forecasters monitor Nine, which is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm named Imelda within the next few days as it tracks near the southern Bahamas.
