Sarasota crushing plant under fire lists deceased attorney as registered agent

A crushing site in north Sarasota that has drawn the ire of local residents and advocates has been found to be using a registered agent in its annual state filings who has been dead for nearly six years.

Although the public-facing name of the facility is “US Recycling,” the property has been legally owned by Freedom Estates Inc since 2016, according to the Sarasota County Property Appraiser. In every annual state filing since 2019, Freedom Estates has listed an attorney named Alexander Paderewski as its registered agent. The problem is that Paderewski has been dead since 2019.

Each of those forms appears to have been verified via electronic signature by a formerly barred Florida attorney named Nevin Weiner. However, when contacted by the Herald-Tribune, Weiner said in an email he hasn’t been involved with the company for years…
