BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Fiesta, Alabama’s largest celebration of Hispanic culture, returned for its 23rd annual festival on Saturday, bringing together a diverse crowd in Birmingham. This year’s theme, “Que No Pare La Fiesta (Don’t Stop the Party),” emphasized unity and togetherness, continuing the tradition of honoring and educating attendees about the Hispanic community in Alabama through art, music, dance, food, and cultural exhibits.
Lizzet Castro, executive assistant at ¡HICA! Hispanic and Immigrant Center of Alabama, expressed her excitement about the event. “I think it’s being a part of getting to experience all the cultures that I don’t typically get the chance to be exposed to,” she said. “Being able to celebrate it in one location while doing it in the city of Birmingham was a really cool opportunity to me. I couldn’t turn it down.”
Attendee L’Toya Adetunji shared her enthusiasm for cultural exchange. “I love learning and experiencing different cultures. I’ve been to different countries, and I love learning new things and I want my daughter to be a part of that,” she said. “I think it’s important for everybody to embrace their culture, especially as Black people because we want people to learn about us.”…
