KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A science experiment at Gibbs High School led to a temporary lockdown on Friday.
Jeff Bagwell with Rural Metro Fire said students were mixing gaseous chemicals for a science experiment to create rain inside the classroom using salt-based products. However, there was an unexpected reaction, prompting the lockdown.
“The order that they were following was absolutely correct. They were doing it right. The instruction was correct. All the precautions were in place. One of the students, I believe, went to adjust his goggles with his gloved hands and had some minor skin irritation from that, and then another student may have had a little bit of irritation from that,” said Bagwell…
