‘It is important to know your roots’ Knoxville celebrates annual HoLa Festival

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) —It’s Hispanic Heritage month and HoLa Hora Latina is celebrating in Knoxville on Saturday with its annual HoLa Festival at World’s Fair Park. 6 news went to the event and spoke with organizers and attendees about what this celebration means to them.

This year marks the 25th annual HoLa festival in Knoxville, first held back in 1999. What began in a small parking lot turned into a block party, moved to Market Square, and now fills World’s Fair Park with thousands each year.

“We have it every year to start the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is September 15th through October 15th, celebrating all the independence of all the Latin American countries that happened during that time,” explained Pedro Tomás the president of HoLa Hora Latina. “It is a celebration for Knoxville and all its surrounding communities to come and experience this wonderful adventure of all of our different cultures that have that one thing in common, which is the language.”

The festival brings people together through food, music, art, dance, and more, all celebrating Hispanic and Latinx American cultures…
