It was 2016 when Matthew Chavez attempted to rob Lackey while at an ATM. The incident ended with Chavez shooting Lackey three times, killing him, then fleeing the scene.
Originally, Chavez was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 23 years for the crime, but that’s not where the story ends. In a shocking twist of events, the conviction is overturned, and a retrial is granted on a technicality.
