First Alert Forecast |Scattered Showers Saturday. FIRST ALERT Tuesday and Wednesday as Tropical Depression Nine Strengthens.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – We have issued a FIRST ALERT Tuesday and Wednesday for potential impacts from Tropical Depression Nine.

The FIRST ALERT issued for Tuesday for Tropical Depression Nine (will likely become Imelda) has been extended through Wednesday, as new forecast information points toward the storm slowing down or moving north toward the Georgia-South Carolina coast.

The National Hurricane Center’s latest forecast track now favors a scenario where the storm strengthens into a Category 1 hurricane (Imelda) by Monday night as it traces the Florida coast this weekend. From there, several computer models agree that Imelda will stall for a short time off the GA/SC coast before eventually heading out to sea – possibly not making landfall anywhere.

This scenario would lead to just some breezy conditions Monday through Wednesday, with the heaviest rain likely staying east/south of the CSRA.

While this is good news, there is still uncertainty as to exactly how this all plays out, which is why we are keeping the First Alert in effect until the forecast comes into clearer focus…
