Sheriff’s office takes responsibility for release of convicted killer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — As deputies continue to search for a Memphis man recently convicted of first-degree murder, the Shelby Co. Sheriff’s Office issued a statement taking responsibility for his release.

Wednesday, 24-year-old Anthony Green, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2020 shooting death of Octavious Atkins,19.

Even though a judge immediately revoked Green’s $500,000 bond, he was released from jail after posting a $2,500 bond in a separate 2025 misdemeanor theft case.
