RI’s Big Blue Bug is an icon. But a new survey ranks it among the ‘ugliest’ public art in the US.

If you’ve ever been driving through Providence, Rhode Island with your family, chances are someone in the car has yelled, “Hey, there’s the Big Blue Bug!” while driving past the giant termite sculpture on Interstate 95.

But the world’s largest Big Blue Bug (yes, that is a title), beloved by Rhode Islanders, was recently given a less-than-glowing distinction in a survey run by Rivers Wall Art Company out of Texas, where it landed on a list of the “ugliest public art” pieces in the country.
