San Juan Islands Sculpture Park is proud to welcome Mother and Child, a new bronze sculpture by artist Lucy Congdon-Hanson. The abstract figurative work, representing two figures, now stands among the Park’s meadows, trees, and shoreline views.
Lucy’s celebrated Abstract Figurative series, shown at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art and other venues, is a collection of sculptures made of wood and steel. Mother and Child is a version created for the outdoors. To maintain the wood element theme, the artist built the original form in plywood, sandblasted the surface to raise the woodgrain, and cast the piece in bronze using the ancient lost-wax method. Only two editions of the sculpture exist; one is in a private collection in Sonoma, California, and the piece now on San Juan Island is the final edition…
